چکیده
Alkali-activated (or geopolymer) membranes have emerged recently as an alternative for conventional ceramic membranes. Their main benefit is the simple and low-energy manufacturing not requiring sintering, thus potential clearly lower costs, while having largely similar performance materials. In this work, metakaolin, blast furnace slag, their mixture (representing typical low, high, medium Ca-content raw materials, respectively) were compared aluminosilicate precursors preparation of self-supporting membrane disks (diameter 75 mm, height 3 mm). A thorough material characterization was performed to evaluate mechanical strength, shrinkage, microstructure, chemical composition, pore size distribution, specific surface area, zeta potential, water flux at different temperatures (20–60 °C) pressures (200–1000 kPa). Based on screening, metakaolin-based (i.e., low-calcium system) indicated overall better than two others based slag or mixture. As a final part study, ammonium-containing model effluent ([NH4+] = 50 mg L−1) distributed through (using 200 kPa pressure 25 nitrogen removal recovery. The mass balance examination that ammonium retained in matrix concentrated retentate fraction), likely mechanism via ion-exchange. obtained results provide interesting insights further development alkali-activated applications removal, such bioreactors municipal wastewater treatment.

EFFECTS OF SILICA MODULUS AND ALKALI CONCENTRATION ON ACTIVATION OF BLAST-FURNACE SLAG
Abstract: The use of alkali-activated cementitious materials especially over the past decades has significantly been increased. The goal of this research is to investigate the effects of silica modulus and alkali concentration on alkali-activation of blast-furnace slag. In this research, the most important physical characteristics of cementitious systems, i.e. the 28-day compressive strength...

In recent years, several researchers have shown the good performance of alkali activated slag cement and concretes. Besides their good mechanical properties and durability, this type of cement is a good alternative to Portland cements if sustainability is considered. Moreover, multifunctional cement composites have been developed in the last decades for their functional applications (self-sensi...

1. Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) is a by product of the steel industry. Blast furnace slag is defined as “the non-metallic product consisting essentially of calcium silicates and other bases that is developed in a molten condition simultaneously with iron in a blast furnace.” [1] In the production of iron, blast furnaces are loaded with iron o...
متن کاملProperties of Foamed Mortar Prepared with Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag
Foamed mortar with a density of 1300 kg/m³ was prepared. In the initial laboratory trials, water-to-cement (w/c) ratios ranging from 0.54 to 0.64 were tested to determine the optimal value for foamed mortar corresponding to the highest compressive strength without compromising its fresh state properties. With the obtained optimal w/c ratio of 0.56, two types of foamed mortar were prepared, name...
متن کاملThe Characterization of Fixation of Ba, Pb, and Cu in Alkali-Activated Fly Ash/Blast Furnace Slag Matrix
The fixation of heavy metals (Ba, Cu, Pb) in an alkali-activated matrix was investigated. The matrix consisted of fly ash and blast furnace slag (BFS). The mixture of NaOH and Na-silicate was used as alkaline activator. Three analytical techniques were used to describe the fixation of heavy metals-X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy di...
